FAQs -- Questions about the nature of our grants and grantees:

Answers:

Who is eligible for a grant from the Waitt Family Foundation?

The Waitt Family Foundation makes grants to federal tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. The Foundation does not make grants to individuals or for-profit organizations. We do not fund capital campaigns, endowments, debt reduction, the arts, religious organizations, public education institutions, healthcare organizations/hospitals, scientific discovery, violence prevention campaigns, or lobbying prohibited by the Internal Revenue Code.

What are your program areas?

The Foundation's three areas of interest relate to our past-present-future framework. We fund projects in the areas of discovering and preserving historical elements from the past that can benefit humanity, community building to help at-risk populations today, and scientific innovation that can be a catalyst for enabling breakthroughs in the future. At this time we are only accepting proposals in the area of Community Building. Please see our Guidelines.

Do you have geographic restrictions?

No.

What is the minimum grant awarded by the foundation?

Grant requests must be for a minimum of $100,000. Multi-year proposals will be considered.

Do you provide scholarship assistance?

The Waitt Family Foundation is continuing to fund previously awarded scholarships that are part of past commitments. Click here for more details.

Do you make grants for computer equipment?

We occasionally make grants intended for purchases of computers. We do not, however, donate the equipment itself.

What further requirements do you have for grant recipients?

In order to better understand what works and does not work, we communicate frequently with our grant recipients. We require informal quarterly progress reports, with a written report at the end of each grant year. We want to hear about successes, failures, and strategies to improve. We also appreciate recipients who share with us any special findings, photos and/or video along the way.

How do we submit a proposal for a Waitt Family Foundation grant?

Review our Guidelines and read the section on How to Apply. We require that you submit a Preliminary Grant Request. If your program is a good fit with our interests, we will contact you to submit a Formal Grant Proposal. We do not accept proposals without first receiving a Preliminary Request. We do not accept mailed or faxed proposals.

Where do I find the form to submit a Preliminary Grant Request?
